Questions We Get Before the Phone Rings

How to Reach Us

Call (785) 203-9721 and you'll reach the shop directly, not a call center reading from a script. We're based at 107 SW 6th Ave, Topeka, KS 66603, which puts us close to Central Topeka 2 and Downtown, so if you're anywhere in that core area a truck isn't driving far to get to you.

If your door won't open, won't close, or is making a noise that worries you, that's the kind of call to make right away rather than waiting it out. A spring under tension or a cable close to fraying isn't something to leave for later in the week.

We don't run a 24-hour dispatch, and we're not going to claim otherwise. What we can tell you is that calling during business hours gets you a straight answer about when someone can look at the door, not a voicemail loop. If you're not sure whether what's wrong with your door is an emergency or something that can wait, describe what it's doing on the phone and we'll tell you honestly which one it is.

What We Actually Do

We work on residential garage doors: broken torsion springs, cables that have jumped the drum, rollers that have worn out of their track, openers that run but won't lift, and panels that have taken a hit from a car bumper or a wind-driven branch.

A lot of the houses we get called to were built between 1961 and 1990, with a good chunk going up in the early-to-mid 1970s. That era of construction shows up in the door hardware too - older torsion setups and openers that have been replaced once or twice already but still sit on original track and jamb hardware. Knowing what that generation of door and opener looks like, and what's actually still available to fit it, is most of the job.

What we don't do is pretend every door is worth saving. If the track is rusted through, the section seals are gone, and the opener is original to a house built decades ago, a repair quote that costs nearly what a new door would cost isn't doing you a favor. We'll say so instead of running up a bill on a door that's past the point of patching.

Where We Travel

Our base is in Topeka, and most calls come from inside the city - Central Topeka 2, Downtown, Central Highland Park, East Topeka, North Topeka, and the Southwest and West Southwest areas are all within a few miles of the shop.

We also take calls out to the towns around the edges of the metro: Tecumseh about 6 miles out, Silver Lake around 10, Meriden about 13, and Carbondale and Rossville both around 15 miles. Lecompton, Perry, Maple Hill, and Overbrook sit a bit farther, in the 16-to-19-mile range, and we still make those drives.

If you're not sure whether your address falls inside that range, give us a call with your street and we'll tell you straight whether it's a trip we're making that day or one we need to schedule around other jobs already on the route.

Frequently asked questions

How fast can someone come look at my door?

It depends on where you are and what's wrong. A spring that's snapped or a door stuck wide open gets priority over a slow-closing opener. Call (785) 203-9721 and describe what's happening - we'll give you a real window, not a vague promise.

Do you work on openers or just the door itself?

Both. Openers that won't lift, won't respond to the remote, or run but don't engage the door are a regular call for us, right alongside spring and cable repairs. Tell us the brand and roughly how old it is when you call, if you know.

Is my house too old for parts to still be available?

A lot of homes in this area were built between 1961 and 1990, and most of that older torsion hardware still has parts available or a reasonable modern equivalent. Some very old track or jamb hardware doesn't, and in those cases replacement is usually the better call than forcing a repair.

Do you come out to towns outside Topeka itself?

Yes. We regularly drive to Tecumseh, Silver Lake, Meriden, Carbondale, Rossville, Lecompton, Perry, Maple Hill, and Overbrook, all within about 20 miles of the shop. Call with your address and we'll confirm it's on a route we're running.

What if my garage door problem turns out to be bigger than I thought?

That happens. A door that looks like a simple roller issue sometimes turns out to be a bent track or a section that's cracked from the inside. We'll stop, show you what we're looking at, and quote the real fix before doing any more work - no surprise add-ons after the fact.
